Joner Strauss isn’t just a veteran skatepark builder (over 50 projects in 10 years!), he’s a passionate advocate for their transformative power in communities. Through his work on city contracts, Joner recognized a critical gap: skateparks designed solely for experienced skaters often fail to engage the broader community or inspire new generations.
Beyond Concrete: Cultivating Inclusive Skate Culture
This realization fueled Joner’s entrepreneurial spirit. In 2013, he established SkateIDSA, the governing body for long-distance skating, and launched the world-famous 24 Hour Ultraskate. He furthered his commitment to education by creating the SBSX Academy, a comprehensive skateboard curriculum.
Skatebird Miami: A Catalyst for Change
Joner’s vision culminated in 2022 with the opening of Skatebird Miami. This groundbreaking venue isn’t just a skatepark; it’s an “All-in” experience designed to ignite a love for skateboarding across generations. Skatebird Miami offers a vibrant hub for seasoned skaters, while its programming and activations create a welcoming space for beginners and families.
